Growers and Eaters Conference
Cultivating an appetite for a resilient food future

Some of us are growers, but all of us are eaters, and we all want to eat well. But in the face of an uncertain economic and ecological future, how can we create a truly sustainable food system that not only feeds us well but also our environment and future generations?

This is the question to be addressed at the third Growers and Eaters Conference, a collaboration between Slow Food Melbourne and Cultivating Community. Bringing together farmers, food experts and community members committed to healthy, resilient food systems, the event celebrates innovative projects that are creatively reshaping relations between growers and eaters, valuing the people and communities who produce our food.

Speakers at this conference include Michael Ableman, US farmer, author and expert on organic farming and sustainable agriculture; Carol Vincent, CEO of the South Australian Farmers Federation; Sarah Robins, Victorian Farmers Market Association; and Les Cameron, Goulburn Valley Food Cooperative.

The afternoon workshops include gardening and composting, local government food projects, raising animals, starting up food-based social enterprises and enriching the soil will explore practical ways to be actively involved – either as a grower or as an eater – in your food community at a grassroots level.  Workshop speakers will include local beef farmer Allen Snaith of Warialda Belted Galloways, Kirsten Larsen of Eaterprises, Ben Falloon of Taranaki Farm and soil expert Paul Taylor along with many others.

The conference will include a long, slow lunch featuring produce and wine from the region.

Enjoy the event.
