The Good Loaf bakes both classic sourdough and semi-sourdough bread full of real ingredients that are free from added preservatives! Enjoy seasonally changing breakfast and lunch menus.
All their sourdough loaves use their sourdough leavens and are egg and dairy free. If you have specific dietary requirements, simply call ahead to the bakery and have a chat; they can often make arrangements for you, converting products to suit your needs. Delicious cakes and muffins are made from scratch and the unique cafe with a funky, yet soulful ambience is the perfect place for breakfast, lunch or an uplifting coffee.
They pride themselves on using local ingredients wherever possible such as local Laucke flour from Bridgewater Mill, McIvor Farm meats and an exclusive coffee blend made especially for The Good Loaf by Custom Coffee. There is indeed a lot that’s ‘good’ about the way they do business.
Their ‘Good Loaf, Good Life’ philosophy and obligation to care for the world and the community influences every aspect of the business, particularly when it comes to recycling and reusing - in fact many facets of the building and furniture itself have been restored or recycled! Their garden boxes grow herbs and vegetable for the kitchen and for guests to help themselves.
The kitchen observes a strict waste sorting and recycling policy, where scraps go to various places, including Peppergreen Farm, and to the chooks and sheep at Laurie’s farm. The cycle is complete when the chickens provide some eggs back to the cafe. They donate their leftover bread to Bendigo Foodshare and other community organisations.
